Temporary Empty Container Return Arrangement in the Middle East

Middle East Situation Update

Dear Valued Customer,

In light of the evolving situation affecting navigation and port operations in the Persian Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz, and in order to safeguard the safety of vessels, crew, and cargo, Ocean Network Express (ONE) will implement temporary arrangements for the return of empty containers.

Effective immediately, the following measures will apply until further notice. This temporary arrangement applies to import shipments into UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and Oman.

Dubai Import Customers 

Designated Empty Return Locations

Customers are requested to return empty containers only at the following designated locations:

  • Oman – Sohar
  • Saudi Arabia – Jeddah

The local detention and demurrage tariff applicable at the designated return locations will apply, subject to local laws and regulations.

 

Import Customers Outside of Dubai

1. Designated Empty Return Locations

Customers are requested to return empty containers only at the following designated locations:

  • Oman – Sohar
  • Saudi Arabia – Jeddah

The local detention and demurrage tariff applicable at the designated return locations will apply, subject to local laws and regulations.

2. Alternative Drop-Off Arrangement

If customers are unable or do not intend to return empty containers at Sohar or Jeddah, an empty container drop-off charge will apply.

  • The applicable drop-off charge must be settled prior to the issuance of the Delivery Order (DO).
  • The applicable drop-off charges are detailed as follows: 

          20' - USD 2250 / container
          40' - USD 2750 / container

Effective Date:

Non-FMC Regulated Trades: 12 March 2026

FMC Regulated Trades, Canada: 11 April 2026 

(*United States, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Guam, Saipan, Hawaii)

※ Subject to any required regulatory approvals and notice periods where applicable, and will remain in effect until further notice.

These measures are subject to change as operational and safety conditions evolve.
